Horizons

The horizon is a place that doesn’t exist. The curve of the earth descending past the dome of the sky, it gives the illusion of existing at infinity. This narrow view encompassing this vast distance is ever changing—second by second, minute by minute, day by day, the sea and the clouds in eternal, dynamic motion around the constant line of the horizon.

These images were taken over six days in October of 2023 from the same spot on the western coast of Lake Superior, sitting at the bottom step of the wooden stairs that led to the narrow, rocky shore. A turn of the view left or right, and everything changed—the types of cloud, the shimmering of the sun on the water. A few minutes later, and everything changed again.
